Phase I - Plug Load

Phase Priorities: The Phases have been organized so that you can do the least expensive improvements first. As you execute each of the Phases you will see you energy bills go down. As they go down that will give you more confidence and money to invest in the future Phases. You can move thru the Phases at your own pace. We strongly recommend that you do Phase I & Phase II as soon as possible. These Phases provide immediate savings any time of year. The other Phases are more expensive and more complicated to execute. OK, there is one exception to this rule - a programmable thermostat, depending on a few circumstances, can be worth doing early. This is located in Phase IV, HVAC, as that is the system that it controls.

These Phases are defined here for businesses. For residential please go to Many Moons Solution

Plug Load: Plug Load is simply any and everything that you plug into outlets except for lamps which are addressed in Phase II. For the core business related appliances there is not a lot to be done to conserve energy as these represent high performance loads critical to your business. However, there are many typical office related loads that can be addressed. Best yet, they can be done very inexpensively and in some cases for free.

Addressable Plug Loads: Some of these provide predictable savings. Others are dependant on behavior modification and may not be reliable. If you have a lot of PCs there can be significant savings here. We take Wattage measurements and talk to the users to help to quantify the predictable savings.

Business Plug Loads: These provide little opportunity for savings. The best thing to do here is to consider power consumption and make it a selection criteria when you purchase new equipment.
