Our History: While it is greatly disputed whether we evolved from the sea, were put here by God or are the remnants of a lost celestial civilization, it is widely agreed that we remained remarkably isolated for thousands of years on this planet. In the most recent times, the energy revolution fueled the industrial revolution which eventually led to the present entertainment and communications revolution. Now our planet has become remarkably small. We now know that the sky is black over here because of the volcano that went off over there. Additionally, man-made pollution over here, leaks man-made pollution over there. While entertainment and communications have been the recent priority, it is inevitable that fossil fuels will not last at the current growing rate of consumption.

Our Future: We must first slow down the growth of energy consumption by using proven technology that preserves our comforts but uses way less fuel. This will lead to a stabilization where we continue to grow yet consume no more electricity. Long term, much like computing, we will move away from the centralized model of control toward the distibuted power plants. Eventually, we will all have our own clean power plant on our own property. The system will depend on the climate that you are located in. Sunny - Solar. Cloudy - Fuel Cell. Windy - Wind. However, central power plants may be needed for city spaces long term until the Fuel Cell technology in combination with tremendous efficiency gains coincide. This will effectively neutralize the fanaticals of the wastelands who sit on the large oil fields. Hopefully, they will see this coming and spend some of their money on figuring how to make the dessert fertile rather than funding terrorism.
